JAKARTA - The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) released a preliminary report on the condition of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft from the analysis of the black box flight data recorder (FDR) data.

However, the exact cause of the crash is unknown. Because the FDR black box investigated by the NTSC only recorded data on the condition of the aircraft engine before the accident.

"So what is the problem, at this time we cannot answer. So we do not convey this information in the initial report, because we also do not know the answer", said Nurcahyo in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, February 10.

Currently, black boxes with the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) type cannot be found. This black box functions to record the conversation between the pilot and the co-pilot during the flight.

"Hopefully, when the cockpit voice recorder is found, we can get answers about what happened in the cockpit, how did the discussions between pilots and what they did", he said.

In addition, the Chairman of the NTSC Soerjanto Tjahjono asked the public not to assume the cause of the crash without scientific investigation.

"We ask at this time not to make assumptions or estimates regarding the cause of this accident. Because the data is still far from lacking", said Soerjanto.

For information, the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft on the Jakarta-Pontianak route lost contact in the Thousand Islands shortly after taking off from Soekarno Hatta Airport on Saturday, January 9, 2020.

Furthermore, the authorities confirmed that the plane crashed around Laki Island and Lancang Island, Thousand Islands at around 14:40 WIB.

The number of passengers who took part in the unfortunate flight consisted of 56 aircraft passengers and 6 crew members.

The FDR Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 black box was found on January 12, 2021, by the joint SAR team. At that time, the FDR was immediately taken to the NTSC to download the data. The successfully downloaded data includes 370 parameters, during the operation of approximately 27 hours. In it, includes 18 flights, including flights that have crashed.
