JAKARTA - All sub-districts on the main island of Batam City, Riau Islands, have a COVID-19 red zone. Meanwhile, three buffer island districts have green zone status.

Deputy Mayor of Batam Amsakar Achmad said, with the latest data, the public must still adhere to health protocols, even though the vaccination program has started.

"Of the 12 sub-districts, nine of the red zone sub-districts, the three green ones are islands," said Amsakar Achmad in Batam, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 20.

He said, the number of residents exposed to the Corona virus in the island city reached 5,398 people, of whom 4,659 people recovered.

"140 people died, and 599 people are still being treated," he said.

The Deputy Mayor said that he still needed further efforts, together with all parties, to resolve the COVID-19 problem.

Meanwhile, the Batam Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force noted that on Wednesday there were an additional 21 people who were exposed to the Corona Virus and 22 people recovered.

Of the additional 21 people who tested positive for COVID-19, 19 were symptomatic and the other two confirmed asymptomatic.

The cure rate for COVID-19 cases in Batam reached 86.3 percent, the death rate was 2.6 percent, and the active case rate was 11.1 percent.

With this addition, all sub-districts on the main island became a red zone, namely Batuampar with 27 people still under treatment, Sekupang with 138 people, Batuaji with 51 people, Sagulung with 54 people, Sei Beduk with 36 people, Bengkong with 26 people, Lubuk Baja with 69 people, Nongsa with 39 people and Batam City with 159 people.

Meanwhile, the three sub-districts of the green zone buffer island without a citizen are being treated for COVID-19.

Until now, the Batam City COVID-19 Task Force has examined RT PCR on 23,218 samples, 17,783 of which were negative, and 5,398 were positive. While 37 samples are still in process.
