JAKARTA - The road access to Mamuju City was cut off after a landslide occurred in the morning at 05.00 WITA, in Belalan Hamlet, Onang Utara Village, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi.

Reported by Antara, Monday, January 19, the Coordinator of the FTI Volunteer Team of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) in Makassar, Zakir Sabhara, said landslides had occurred again in Belalan Hamlet, Tubo Sendana District and large rocks covered the main road.

"For the time being, the road access has been cut off again because the rocks, which are quite large (as big as a minibus), are blocking the main road," he said.

Zakir Sabhara, who is also the Dean of FTI UMI Makassar, has since Saturday, January 16, together with his team of volunteers have focused on helping efforts in Majene Regency.

He said that since the avalanche occurred before dawn local time, the queue of vehicles going to Mamuju City carrying aid had to be restrained.

Vice versa, vehicles from Mamuju City going back to Makassar via the Majene Regency route also cannot do much.

"For the landslide victims, we haven't monitored it. What is certain is that the vehicles on the two routes have to queue quite a long way because large enough rocks still cover the main road," he said.

Several messages from residents or volunteers who were going to Mamuju city brought assistance spread through the WhatsApp application group asking for help from the Public Works office to deploy heavy equipment to help the process of cleaning up the landslide material.
