Manado Today: Many Boats Crash Into The Mainland, Roads Full Of Rock-rubbish After The Waves Crash

JAKARTA - The condition of the Megamas area, Manado, North Sulawesi, looks messy this morning. Lots of rocks, garbage and even dozens of fishing boats crashed onto the land after being hit by the extreme waves.

Extreme waves overflowed to the main road area in Megamas including entering Manado Town Square (Mantos). Monday, January 18th, conditions looked messy, the remains of objects carried by the waves of the tidal waves.

From several photos obtained by VOI from a number of Manado residents, it appears that the road in the area behind Megamas Manado is full of stones from the seafront. There is also trash to the boats that crash into the shop area.

The sea water on Sunday, January 17 afternoon did indeed rise to the mainland. The cause is due to the tidal wave. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is watching out for waves 2.5 to 4 meters high in Manado, North Sulawesi.

"So the wave height is 2.5 to 4 meters," said Head of the Center for Maritime Meteorology of BMKG Eko Prasetyo in a written statement reported by Antara, Sunday, January 17.

BMKG said that the high waves were triggered by the push of ocean wave energy which is superposing to the tidal phase of the sea water.

Then, in addition to high waves in Manado, BMKG also issued an early warning of high waves of more than 6 meters in a number of waters in Indonesia which took effect from January 17 at 07.00 WIB to January 19, 2021 at 07.00 WIB.
