JAKARTA - The Malang City Government stated that the implementation of a curfew from 20.00 to 04.00 WIB on December 29, 2020 to January 8, 2021 aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the year-end holidays.

Reported by Antara, Thursday, December 31, Malang Mayor Sutiaji stated that the implementation of the curfew in East Java, including Malang City, is in accordance with the East Java Provincial Government Circular number 736/24068 / 013.4 / 2020 concerning the Implementation of Health Protocols in the Implementation of Late Holiday Activities New Year 2021.

"This SE is carried out in an effort to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, especially during the New Year holiday season," said Sutiaji, quoted from his Instagram account, sam.sutiaji, in Malang, Thursday.

Sutiaji explained, during the year-end holiday season amidst the corona virus pandemic, it is feared that there are still people who want to crowd or do not have urgent interests, who are outside their homes at night.

According to Sutiaji, the presence of crowds, especially on New Year's Eve, has the potential to spread COVID-19, which is currently getting more and more violent. People are still allowed to leave the house, when there are urgent matters, such as going to the hospital, or buying medicine at a pharmacy.

"We ask for the awareness of the whole community not to leave the house when there is no urgent matter. This is done because COVID-19 is getting more and more violent," said Sutiaji.

Sutiaji added that residents of Malang City who work, or have just traveled from outside the city, can still return to their homes in Malang City, when the curfew is in effect.

"If there are people whose homes are in Malang City, they travel or work outside the city, they must show their identity, so they can enter Malang City after 20.00 WIB," said Sutiaji.

Sutiaji emphasized that the policy related to the curfew was not issued by the Malang City Government, but by the East Java Provincial Government, to be implemented in all regions.

"This is not a mayor's circular, but from East Java Province, and is valid from December 29, 2020 to January 8, 2021. After that, it will return to the circular letter of each city regency," said Sutiaji.

In the circular signed by the Regional Secretary of East Java Province, local governments are asked to increase the implementation of health protocols in their respective areas, as well as to limit community activities that cause crowds and crowds.

Some of these activities include celebrations, wedding reception ceremonies, and New Year celebrations. In addition, local governments are required to implement a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. WIB.

Local governments are asked to supervise and coordinate with the TNI / Polri, the Civil Service Police Unit, including the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, to take firm action in the event of a violation.

If there is a violation, the local government can refer to the Regional Regulation (Perda) of East Java Province Number 2 of 2020 concerning Amendments to the Regional Regulation of the Province of East Java Number 1 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Peace, Public Order and Community Protection.
