KUPANG - Three people who were working on an irrigation canal project in Bokong Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, died as a result of being struck by lightning.

"There were three project workers who died as a result of a lightning strike in Bokong Village, Tabenu District," said Kupang Police Public Relations Officer (Paur Humas) Aipda Randy Hidayat, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 1.

The incident occurred when seven workers were working on an irrigation canal project in Sanenu Hamlet, Bokong Village, Tabenu District, Tuesday afternoon at around 12.00 WITA when the area was pouring rain.

Three workers died at the scene with their bodies burns due to lightning strikes.

The three victims who died were Matias Morreira (35), Edemundo DCD Concecao (20) and Herman Da Conceicai Kusmao (18).

In addition, Randy said, there were four other project workers who suffered burns due to lightning strikes who were in intensive care at SK Lerik Hospital, Kupang City, namely Carlos Soares (59), Antonio da Conceicao (24), Antoni Marqez (40) and Manuel Soares, 22, is currently in intensive care.
