North Jakarta Residents Asked To Care About Maintaining Water Channels To Prevent Flood During Rainy Season

JAKARTA - The North Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakut) asked its residents to always care for and maintain the cleanliness of the nearest waterways to avoid potential local flooding during the rainy season.

"Residents can participate in anticipating this rainy season by not littering and always maintaining cleanliness around waterways," said Head of the Water Resources Implementation Unit (SDA) Kelapa Gading District, North Jakarta, Citrin Indarwati in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 4th.

Citrin explained that her party along with 46 officers had also cleaned a 300-meter water channel in RW 03, Pegangsaan Dua Street, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta since Thursday, September 29, until this Tuesday.

"Some of the drain cover plates fell to block the flow of water, but they have been lifted so that the channel is running smoothly. Let's keep it," said Citrin.

In addition, she continued, the mud sediments in the waterways reached a height of 60-70 centimeters, thereby automatically reducing the capacity of the waterways.

"To date, as many as 6,000 sacks of mud have been collected and removed from the channel. In addition to manual labor, we have also lowered two units of suction pumps (alkon) and three units of floating pumps," said Citrin.

Therefore, she added, she hopes the channel can return to functioning properly as before.

"So that if there is a puddle, the water will recede quickly in approximately one hour," she said.

She prayed that puddles in the road area that reached a height of about 20 centimeters would not happen again.
