JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights will begin to identify areas in remote areas of the archipelago that have great intellectual property (KI) potential, but have not been registered.

"We will identify especially districts and cities that have great potential, but the public or business actors are not yet aware of the importance of protecting KI," said Acting Director General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), Razilu in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Thursday, September 29.

Razilu said areas that were considered to have great potential, but the lack of registration for the KI would be specifically intervened by DJKI, including with the help of local governments.

In this way or step, it is hoped that the community or micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will immediately register intellectual property rights before trademark disputes arise and so on with other parties.

On the one hand, Razilu admits that currently the government is still mapping regional potential in general and has not determined which areas must receive special attention regarding KI registration.

"We are still paying attention in general, but in the future, district and city identification will be carried out which has great KI potential," he said as quoted by Antara.

Nationally, the number of KI applications submitted to the DJKI of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights continues to increase every year. In 2022, the increase reached 29 percent for the same period compared to 2020 and 2021.

This increase cannot be separated from the 16 flagship programs carried by the DJKI of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in educating the public about KI. One program that touches the community is the mobile intellectual property clinic (Mobile IP Clinic).

Of the many activities of mobile intellectual property clinics carried out in various regions, a total of around 10 thousand people have received their services.
