JAKARTA - Turkey's armed unmanned surface ship (AUSV) will be used in the upcoming NATO exercises, becoming Turkey's first platform to be represented in alliance military exercises.

His name is AUSV MARLIN, produced through the cooperation of Sefine Shipyard and defense company Aselsan under the leadership of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB).

With this product, Turkey will carry out special tasks in its own classification, such as underwater reconnaissance and surveillance as well as surface, intelligence, electronic warfare, target detection and identification, to support for amphibious operations in NATO exercises, citing the Daily Sabah of the Haber TRT September 15.

While carrying out all these missions, MARLIN will show on international platforms the ability to cooperate with manned naval elements.

The platform, which is about 15 meters (49 ft) long, has important capabilities related to surface warfare, underwater warfare, electronic warfare (EW) and asymmetrical operations.

MARLIN, which embodies the capabilities of warships, could even become a naval warfare platform that can be used more flexibly than warships at some point.

The current EW system at MARLIN is the first in the world, as well as the first AUSV to carry an EW system.

This will be able to perform EW from unmanned surface platforms, in a way that cannot be used on manned platforms. Experts consider this capability a game changer and a very innovative approach.

Considering other naval war capabilities planned to be possessed by MARLIN, it said the AUSV would change the concepts and doctrines of naval warfare.

For ammunition, the Bazgun, which was launched from the air and developed by Turkey, could be fired from this platform. Also marine-to-ground ammunition.

It is known that Marlin will take part together with nearly 100 floating vehicles, fly and dive unmannedly, in the'Dynamic Messenger 2022' event which will be held in Portugal at the end of September.
