Myanmar Military Rezim Ancam In Prison For Likes And Share Uploads Of The Resistance Movement

JAKARTA - Myanmar's military regime warned the public against showing moral support for the resistance movement, threatening a 10-year prison sentence for liking and sharing its content on social media.

The Minister of Information and junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun said "terrorists" were looking for funds to kill innocent people in a campaign to destabilize the country, so support for them would be dealt with firmly.

He said social media support for the Government of National Unity (NUG) or its armed affiliate, the People's Defense Forces (PDF), could lead to a three to 10 year prison sentence, and even worse for those who provide even a small amount of money.

"If you donate money or support terrorists and their actions, you will face heavier punishments. We are doing this to protect innocent civilians," he told a televised news conference, including a presentation detailing penalties for helping resistance groups.

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, groups opposed to the military have used social media platforms to try to communicate their messages more broadly, with journalists frequently uploading pictures of protests and alleged atrocities by the army.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has accused the junta of mass killings and crimes against humanity over its crackdown on opponents since last year's coup.

Thousands of people have been arrested and many have been jailed during a secret trial.

Recently the military regime executed four democracy activists, accusing them of facilitating attacks by militia groups.
