JAKARTA - Iran's military commander said Western sanctions against Russia had failed, while Tehran's close coordination with Moscow would minimize the impact.

The West, led by the United States, imposed stringent sanctions on Russia, after Moscow invaded Ukraine on February 24. Not only state and military officials, sanctions also target individuals and business entities.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Ali Abdollahi said on Rossiya-24 television, the presence of foreign companies and high-ranking officials from around the world at the Army-2022 International Military Technical Forum, showed sanctions against Russia had failed.

"Even in the exhibition which was attended by many companies from all over the world, it showed that sanctions could not do anything," he said as quoted from TASS August 18.

"The presence of senior officials of foreign countries and their speeches at the forum, clearly shows that sanctions against Russia have failed," he continued.

Abdollahi added, "the greater and greater the coordination between Russia and Iran, the smaller the impact of the sanctions."

The Army-2022 International Military Technical Forum was held from August 15 to 21 at the Patriot Exhibition Center near Moscow. The event is organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
