JAKARTA - A local resident of the Kherson region, Dmitry Schorukov, has been detained by security forces for providing Ukrainian soldiers with information on the location and movement of Russian troops.

He told reporters that based on his position data, Ukrainian artillery carried out an attack on a communications center for the Russian army.

"Sometimes I see convoys and send (information). In the message, I give the number and type of vehicle," he said, quoted from TASS August 16.

He further explained that he sent the data to his sister's husband, who had previously participated in the Kyiv operation in Donbass, before moving to Nikolayev after the Russian special military operations began.

According to Sukhorukov, he accepted such an offer, because he was involved in the delivery of bread and could move around the region.

"I took pictures of the tower, the communications antenna, I think. And then a rocket hit the tower. It was me who marked it, I was to blame," he admits.

Sukhorukov said he is currently choosing to 'repent' and cooperate with Russian security forces.

The Kherson region is located in southern Ukraine, bordering Crimea. In mid-March, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the region was under the full control of Russian forces.

At the end of April, a military-civilian government was established in the region. Territorial authorities expressed their desire to become part of the Russian Federation.
