Farmers Get IDR 10 Million Per Cow That Dies Due To FMD In Riau

RIAU - The Riau Provincial Government provides financial assistance of Rp. 10 million per cow that dies due to mouth and nail disease (PMK).

"The assistance of Rp. 10 million per head was given with an indicator of the results of the post-mortem and after determining the status of the FMD outbreak for livestock," said Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Service (PKH) of Riau Province, Herman, in his statement, Monday, August 1.

The policy is based on a decision from Deputy III for Emergency Management of BNPB, Major General Fajar Setyawan.

The stipulation states that assistance for livestock that died due to PMK can be submitted so that those affected immediately receive the benefits.

Conditions for cows receiving aid must have been divisum. Assistance can also only be given after the determination of the affected area and the status of the FMD outbreak.

"Currently we continue to intensify the data collection of dead and forcibly slaughtered cattle due to exposure to FMD. In Riau there are 5 cattle species that died from FMD from Siak, while from Rokan Hulu and Kampar 1 each," he said.

Furthermore, Herman noted that so far 21 cattle in Riau were forcibly slaughtered due to exposure to FMD. For cows that are forcibly slaughtered due to exposure to FMD, it can be proposed to receive assistance.

Therefore, he continued, his party will intensify the data collection of dead cattle as well as for cattle that were forced to be slaughtered due to exposure to FMD, after and before the determination of the FMD outbreak.

Data collection to separate dead cattle and forced beef cattle exposed to FMD was also intensified before and after the determination of FMD.

"Prior to the determination of the PMK outbreak in Riau, cows that died and were forcibly slaughtered could not be replaced, even though they had not received a post-mortem, but they could be proposed for assistance," he said.
