JAKARTA - A number of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) held a demonstration in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta.

They started to gather around 10.30 WIB and formed a line facing DKI City Hall by unfurling a banner containing their demands. The line of workers used part of the road, but it was observed that the traffic around it was not too heavy due to this demonstration.

The chairman of the DKI Jakarta KSPI Regional Representative, Winarso, said it was estimated that there were 300 workers gathered in front of the office of the Governor of DKI Anies Baswedan.

The workers demanded Anies to file an appeal to the State Administrative High Court (PTTUN) against the decision of the Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) which lowered the DKI Jakarta provisional minimum wage (UMP) in 2022 from Rp4.64 million to Rp4.53 million.

"We came here to hope that the Governor would make an appeal as soon as possible and indeed this is the result of our discussion that the PTUN's decision is very baseless," said Winarso when met at the location, Wednesday, July 20.

Winarso explained that the PTUN decision was felt by the workers to be unfounded because the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) as the plaintiff in the UMP case did not represent any company.

"This means that only Apindo is suing. Of course this will greatly affect the economy for the workers," said Winarso.

Meanwhile, Winarso views Anies' policy of increasing wages by 5.1 percent from last year to Rp4.64 million based on a fairly mature study. This is because Anies had previously held a dialogue with representatives of employers and workers.

"I think the Governor is also conducting dialogue or communication with private parties or companies affected by the UMP. So, in our opinion, what figures have been set by the Governor are very well-founded and have been through in-depth studies," he explained.

Furthermore, Winarso said that his party also plans to hold an audience with the DKI Provincial Government. The plan is that the Head of the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency, Andri Yansyah, will meet the workers to accommodate these aspirations.
