BANDA ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for strong winds and high sea waves in the Aceh region in the next few days. Residents are asked to be vigilant.

"In the next three days the wind speed will start from 20-60 kilometers per hour, this is already a strong wind category", said BMKG Class I Data and Information Coordinator Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar, Zakaria Ahmad, in Banda Aceh, reported by Antara, Monday, July 4.

Zakaria explained, currently Aceh is still in the middle of the west wind season. Over the next few days, Aceh is predicted to experience light to moderate rains accompanied by strong winds, especially in the northeast region.

Starting from the area of Sabang City, Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Pidie, North Aceh, East Aceh, Langsa, East Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Southeast Aceh, to the City of Subulussalam.

"This strong wind occurred due to rainfall caused by cumulonimbus clouds", said Zakaria.

Therefore, the BMKG asked the public to be aware of the potential impact of damage due to strong winds such as damage to house roofs, fallen trees, and damage to public facilities that could potentially affect residents.

"We are still in the wet-dry season, so sometimes it rains in the morning, later in the afternoon or evening it will be sunny, so people need to be vigilant", he said.

On the other hand, he continued, Aceh's sea waves are also expected to be high in the next three days, due to strong winds. For the northern waters of Sabang, the sea wave height is from 0.5 to 5 meters.

Then, he said, the waters of the northern part of the Malacca strait have wave heights ranging from 0.5 to 4 meters, the west coast of Aceh from Aceh Jaya to Aceh Singkil, wave heights from 0.5 to 4 meters, and the West Indian Ocean region of Aceh with a wave height of 6 meters.

“Six meters is already very high. We hope that fishermen do not go to sea first, especially those operating in the West Indian Ocean region of Aceh, north of Sabang, and the northern part of the Malacca Strait. If you have to go to sea, just stay close", he said.

The public is also asked to be aware of the potential for tidal waves in the southwest region of Aceh, especially in the districts of Aceh Barat and Aceh Singkil.

"This tidal flood could be caused by a full moon or due to wave heights of up to 5-6 meters, so low-lying areas must be vigilant", he said.
