BINTAN - The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team found a victim of the KM Pacific fishing boat that capsized in the waters of Mapur Island, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri) dead.

The head of the Tanjungpinang SAR Office, Slamet Riyadi, said the body of the victim, 20-year-old Rahmat, was found in the waters of Berakit, Bintan, Sunday (3/7) night.

"The victim's body has been evacuated to the Riau Islands Hospital," said Slamet, in Tanjungpinang, as reported by Antara, Monday, July 4.

Slamet said that the ship capsized incident took place at around 03.30 WIB, Thursday (30/6), as a result of being hit by strong winds.

The ship was carrying eight passengers, consisting of a captain with seven crew members.

At the time of the incident, the ship's captain and six crew were rescued by a fishing boat that was passing by at the scene. Meanwhile, another crew member, Rahmat, did not come to the surface and was declared missing.

The Tanjungpinang SAR office received information about this incident from the Tanjung Balai Air and Water Police (Polairud), Karimun at 06.30 WIB, Thursday (30/6).

The search for victims involved a combination of elements including the Tanjungpinang SAR Office, the Riau Islands Police, the Navy, the Bintan Police, and local fishermen.

"With the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation is officially closed," said Slamet.
