MANOKWARI - The government of Manokwari Regency, West Papua is building an emergency market for 741 traders who were victims of the Wosi Market fire on May 9.

Secretary of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs, Manokwari Herman Rona, said traders who were victims of the Wosi Market fire would be relocated to an emergency market which was also built on the site of the former fire.

The Manokwari Regency Government disbursed funds of around Rp. 13 billion for the construction of the emergency market at Wosi Market.

"Regarding the renovation or rebuilding of the Wosi emergency market, Perindagkop has the task of the Regent of Manokwari to collect data on the number of traders affected by the fire," he said in Manokwari, Antara, Thursday, June 30.

A total of 741 traders who were registered as victims of the Wosi Market fire included all grocery traders selling on the Wosi Market ring road.

The construction of the Wosi emergency market, he said, involved other agencies, such as the Regional Disaster Management Agency and the local Public Works Agency.

Given the location of the Wosi Market near the shoreline, the construction of the market building must be strong and it is impossible to use mild steel.

Currently, the construction of the Wosi emergency base is underway by elevating the ground floor using sand and stone, considering that the market was previously always flooded during the rainy season.

As planned, the Wosi emergency market will be completed and will be operational in September.
