JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle Narcotics, Psychotropics and Precursors (NPP) as many as 379 cases with a total weight of 1.86 million tons.

"DJBC managed to thwart 379 cases of NPP smuggling with a total weight of 1.86 million tons until June 10, 2022," said Director of Interdiction for Narcotics and Customs at the Ministry of Finance, Syarif Hidayat, as quoted by Antara, Friday, June 17.

Syarif said the trend of NPP smuggling continues to increase, especially during the pandemic, when the movement of people and goods should be hampered, but it does not reduce smuggling efforts.

Not only that, there has been a shift in the trend of NPP smuggling due to the pandemic, namely as official routes for passengers are restricted and closed so that syndicates switch to routes that are not affected by restrictions.

These narcotics are finally sent via POS or Courier Service Companies (PJT), illegal land routes and sea routes.

"So they smuggled narcotics through consignments," said Syarif.

According to him, the smuggler networks that often smuggle NPP into Indonesia are Golden Chrysant and Golden Triangle.

"We intercept a lot of drugs from shipping goods, they usually enter the waters of Malacca-Aceh. They also enter from the southern route, the last one in Pangandaran but was obtained by the police," explained Syarif.
