Four Actors Of The Trafficking Network Of Dozens Of Women In Sukabumi Arrested

SUKABUMI - The Sukabumi Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested four suspected perpetrators of a trafficking ring with the number of victims reaching 13 people who were planned to be illegally dispatched to Saudi Arabia to become migrant workers.

"All of the victims are female, the youngest is 27 years old and the oldest is 48 years old. The victims are planned to be sent to Saudi Arabia and several other Middle Eastern countries to be employed illegally," said Sukabumi Deputy Chief of Police, Kompol R Bimo Moernanda, quoted by Antara, Friday, June 3rd.

According to Bimo, each suspect has his own role, such as BR (28) and CS (46) in charge of recruiting prospective workers.

According to information gathered from the Sukabumi Police Satreskrim personnel, the modus operandi used by suspects BR and CS to recruit their victims was to lure big wages and get decent jobs as long as they wanted to become migrant workers in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.

Then after the victim agreed, then the citizen was picked up to be taken to the shelter in Tangerang. During their stay in the shelter, these prospective illegal migrant workers are subject to strict supervision from the BM and their activities are limited while waiting for their scheduled departure to a country that will accept the victim as a worker.

"What's worse, one of the suspects committed lewd acts to a number of victims, namely sexual exploitation while in the shelter," he said.

Bimo said that after receiving the report of a criminal case of trafficking in persons (TPPO), they immediately carried out the development and succeeded in arresting the perpetrators and raiding the shelter for prospective illegal migrant workers in collaboration with the local police.

From the location, his party also confiscated various residence documents belonging to the victims, two passports, 13 sheets of family permits, 17 cellphones of various brands belonging to the victim and suspect, a bundle of evidence of conversations between the suspect and the victim, two ATM cards, an account book and one unit. The suspects were charged with TIP Article 2 paragraph (1) or paragraph (2) and/or Article (4) and/or Article (10) and/or Article 11 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP. The penalty is a minimum of three years and a maximum of 15 years in prison and a minimum fine of Rp. 120 million or a maximum of Rp. 600 million.

"We are still developing this case, it is possible that there are many other victims," he said.
