President Scheduled To Visit East Sumba To Monitor Sorghum Production

KUPANG - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to make a working visit to East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, to see firsthand the results of the production and development of the sorghum crop commodity that is being developed in the area on Wednesday, June 1.

"Mr. President Joko Widodo has been confirmed to visit East Sumba Regency to see firsthand the production activities of sorghum cultivation that are being developed in Laipori, East Sumba Regency," said East Sumba Regent Khristofel Praing as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 31.

According to the Regent of East Sumba, President Joko Widodo wants to see firsthand the production of sorghum in the Laipori area, which was visited by the Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko on January 7, 2022.

He said the East Sumba Regency area on Sumba Island is an area that has great potential for the development of quality sorghum commodities.

He said, according to the results of research conducted by a number of experts that the sorghum plants found in East Sumba are the best in Indonesia because from the results of the development of sorghum in Sumatra, Sulawesi and Java, the quality of sorghum is very good in East Sumba Regency.

According to him, the sorghum land that has been developed in East Sumba Regency is around tens of hectares and is planned to be expanded to reach thousands of hectares.

Regent Khristofel Praing said the sorghum harvesting activity had been carried out on eight hectares of land with very satisfactory results.

In addition to observing the production of sorghum, President Joko Widodo also monitored community activities at the Waingapu City market, the capital of East Sumba Regency.
