Dogiyai's Situation In Papua Is Conducive After The Burning Of Residents' Houses, Women And Children Refuge At Night

JAYAPURA - Head of Police Dogiyai Kompol Bambang said that the situation in his area is gradually conducive and the people who previously fled have started to return to their homes.

"Many people whose houses were lightly burned have returned, but those whose houses were burned down still chose to evacuate," said Commissioner Bambang as quoted by Anttara, Tuesday, May 24.

However, when night falls, he said, there are still many who choose to take refuge in the TNI-Polri Post, especially women and children.

Bambang said that his party received additional assistance from personnel including from Brimob to secure the situation, considering that there were still those who were trying to set fire to it.

According to him, there is information related to the existence of a group of people who want to set fires, be it a market, a house, or a resident's kiosk so that the authorities remain alert.

In the arson action that has been carried out since Sunday (22/5) night, it is confirmed that there are no fatalities. However, a number of residents were injured, including two soldiers who were hit by hand arrows, said Bambang.

"It is not yet known what caused some people to set fire to Dogiyai," said Commissioner Bambang.
