MAJALENGKA - Majalengka Police Chief, West Java, AKBP Edwin Affandi said the motive behind the bombing at a bank was to ask for some money to pay off debts that were due.

"The perpetrator is known to have a debt of Rp. 20 million which is billed every day. Out of desperation, the perpetrator came to the bank and threatened to detonate a bomb which he admitted was inside his body," said Edwin, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

The perpetrator with the initials D (32) was arrested after carrying out a terror attack at a bank in Leuwimunding District, Majalengka Regency, Monday, May 23.

Edwin said the perpetrator came from Ujungberung Village, Sindangwangi District, and brought a bomb assembly and then went to a bank to ask for some money.

However, after being examined by the Gegana Brimob Team of the West Java Police, the perpetrator was found to be carrying a toy homemade bomb. As a result, the person concerned was immediately arrested by the Majalengka Resort Police.

"This perpetrator asked the bank for IDR 30 million by threatening to detonate the bomb that was on his body," he said.

Erwin ensured that the perpetrator did not suffer from a mental disorder. The perpetrator has now been detained at the Majalengka Police Headquarters for further questioning.

"The suspect is charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code with a threat of nine years in prison," he said.
