Firli Says Fugitives Can't Sleep, Ex-KPK Investigators: They Are Relaxed, They Can Even Lead Company Meetings

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo Harahap assessed that the statement by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri was wrong about the fugitives, including Harun Masiku, who could not sleep well. According to him, those who are on the run are actually living a relaxed life and some are even able to lead their companies.

Instead of a fugitive who couldn't sleep well, when he worked before being kicked out by the KPK because he didn't pass the National Insight Test (TWK), it was the investigators of the anti-corruption commission who felt a moral burden. The reason, they feel the work is not finished.

"Experience as an investigator, the fugitive is relaxed, he can even lead his company's meeting, it is the investigator who always thinks and works hard to find this fugitive because it is his duty and moral responsibility," Yudi wrote through his Twitter account @yudiharahap46 on Friday, May 20.

Not only that, Yudi also said that there were even fugitives who were gardening and hiding in an apartment close to the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada.

"Even when they were arrested, their condition was relaxed. When they were caught, they were caught," he said.

According to him, fugitives from corruption cases rarely have a hard life. The need for food and shelter can also be met from the results of their corruption.

So, Yudi said that it is wrong if there is an assumption that fugitives who have not been caught like Harun Masiku are living hard.

"This corruption is a crime about money and authority, so don't imagine the lives of criminals who are fugitives during their escape are difficult, their basic needs such as housing and food are met," he said.

Furthermore, Yudi said that actually capturing a fugitive like Harun Masiku was not difficult. Moreover, with the existing human resources at the KPK today.

However, he assessed, the KPK currently seems reluctant to arrest their fugitives. "History has proven that it is possible to be arrested," said the former investigator.

As previously reported, KPK chairman Firli Bahuri confirmed that his party would continue to hunt down the fugitives, including Harun Masiku. They certainly will not be able to sleep well.

"There are several people that the KPK is looking for. I'm not mentioning one by one but not just one person, there are at least six people we are still looking for," Firli told reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, 18 May.

Firli said Harun and the other fugitives who were not further specified would continue to be searched for at any time. The KPK is currently just waiting for time.

"I'm sure to this day he can't sleep well. Because the KPK will look for him at any time. It's only a matter of time before he will be caught," said the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Harun Masiku as a suspect in giving bribes to KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan since January 2020. This bribery was carried out so that he would have the convenience of sitting as a member of the DPR RI through time shifts or PAW.

Harun's escape began when the KPK carried out an arrest operation regarding this case on January 8, 2020. In the silent operation, the KPK named four suspects, namely Harun Masiku, Wahyu Setiawan, former Bawaslu Member Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and Saeful Bahri.

However, Harun, who was not caught by OTT, is unknown. He reportedly fled to Singapore and is said to have returned to Indonesia.

Apart from Harun, there are actually three other fugitives who have not been caught. They are Surya Darmadi who has been on the run since 2019; Izil Azhar has been fugitive since 2018; and Kirana Kotama who has been fugitive since 2017.
