CENTRAL JAVA - Central Java Governor, Ganjar Pranowo, formed a Rapid Response Unit (URC) team to monitor and control cases of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in livestock in his area.

Ganjar ensured that the current stock of meat in Central Java was not disturbed by the FMD case that originated from livestock in East Java.

"Central Java is still well controlled, and some of the existing ones, according to veterinarians, can be treated, and it will take about three to five months," Ganjar said in a written statement, Sunday, May 15.

Furthermore, Ganjar asked the public not to panic even though FMD has now been detected in Rembang, Boyolali, Banjarnegara, and Wonosobo.

He also asked the public to support the efforts made by the Central Java Provincial Government.

"Now the surveillance that we ask for is running, and I'm asking for the governor's decree to be issued immediately. So the [Health] Service, yesterday, prepared a quick decree so that the team can run, move, don't be slow," he said.

More than that, Ganjar explained the handling of FMD such as tightening the traffic for the entry of animals from other areas.

He has also spoken with the Head of the Central Java Regional Police to tighten inspections in border areas with neighboring provinces, especially East Java.
