JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbud, Ristek) Nadiem Makarim will make a policy to manage the seeds of sports-loving athletes in schools.

"One thing we want to try to help from Kemendikbudristek is number one, how to provide regulations so that the talents of our young athletes can focus on sports and their talents," said Nadiem at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday 12 May.

Nadiem conveyed this after attending the National Sports Design Implementation Meeting (DBON) chaired by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

"So this sport is a bit special where really, the nursery has to be done very young for us to achieve world-class achievements," said Nadiem, as quoted by Antara.

The second thing the ministry will do is how to increase the frequency and quality of sports competitions.

"Because without competition, we will not be able to filter out who has a fighting spirit in the competition. Maybe many people have talent, but it's their turn to compete mentally. So we have to compete as part of 'filtering talent'," added Nadiem.

The third thing is related to the preparation of infrastructure to cultivate the spirit of sports in schools.

"And the fourth, of course, very important is how human resources are in the field of sports. Our sports teachers in schools understand 'sport science', understand nutrition, understand athletic training and others, so that is a very important aspect of HR ," explained Nadiem.

Nadiem said that the Ministry of Education and Culture is committed to making schools able to build a culture of sports and healthy competition.

"Of course, with the new curriculum, the Merdeka Curriculum will be much more flexible so that it can accommodate various kinds of activities, such as sports," said Nadiem.

Moreover, according to Nadiem, sport is also very good for producing profiles of Pancasila students, which is also the goal of the Independent Learning Program.

"From sports we learn to compete, we learn to be tough, we learn to work together, we learn to help each other, and have very high mental strength," said Nadiem.

Based on Presidential Decree No. 86 of 2021 concerning DBON, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin becomes the Head of the DBON Central Coordination Team.
