JAKARTA - The PDI Perjuangan condemned the stabbing of the cleric Sheikh Ali Jaber in Lampung. Violence against clerics should not be tolerated.

"The PDI Perjuangan DPD North Sumatra certainly condemns such actions and asks the police to thoroughly investigate the motives for these crimes," said Deputy Chairman of the Political Communication Division of the North Sumatra PDI Perjuangan DPD, Aswan Jaya in a written statement, Monday, September 14.

Aswan emphasized that every citizen must be protected from acts of terror. The security forces were asked to be more vigilant so that criminal acts such as the stabbing of Sheikh Ali Jaber would not be repeated.

"The state must be present in protecting its citizens and their activities from criminal disturbances, especially since the activities carried out by Syekh Ali Jaber do not violate positive legal rules in Indonesia, so naturally the state through the security apparatus must guarantee the security of every citizen," he continued.

Because of this, PDIP asked the security apparatus to give appropriate punishment to the perpetrators and explore the motive for the stabbing of Sheikh Ali Jaber.

"If there are intellectual actors, the police must find them to provide security guarantees for the community or Ulama who carry out the same activities" Aswan added.

In addition, Aswan Jaya appealed to the public not to believe in the issues developing on social media that have not been confirmed. The handling of cases must be entrusted to law enforcers.

"There are many parties who exploit and fry the case which aims to divide the unity of the Ummah, for that we hope that the public is selective in receiving information that is circulating, because I see a lot of hoax news circulating," said the Chairman of the BKM Masjid Al Hidayah Budi Luhur.

The cleric and preacher of Sheikh Ali Jaber, Alpin Andria, was named a suspect. But the police are still waiting for the results of the psychological test of the perpetrator who stabbed a knife into Syekh Ali Jaber's right arm during an activity in Bandar Lampung.

"He has been named a suspect. But it is still under psychological examination because according to information he has experienced mental disorders, ”said Head of Public Information for the Lampung Regional Police, AKBP Zulman Topani, confirmed by VOI, Monday, September 14.

This stabbing took place in the area of the Falahuddin Mosque, Tanjung Karang Barat, Bandar Lampung City. Sheikh Ali Jaber suffered a wound to his right arm.
