JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Region II Education Sub-department was forced to temporarily suspend face-to-face learning (PTM) in 18 schools due to a number of students being exposed to COVID-19.

Head of the Central Jakarta Region II Education Sub-Department, Uripasih said the 18 schools that were closed consisted of elementary, middle, and high school levels.

"During the closure, face-to-face learning is temporarily suspended and shifted to distance learning (PJJ)," said Uripasih as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 25.

A total of 37 students from the 18 schools are currently still in self-isolation at home and undergoing quarantine at the COVID-19 Emergency Hospital Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

According to Uripasih, generally, students are exposed to COVID-19 from family clusters. However, tracking is still carried out on class students and teachers.

If a case is found from a school cluster, the Central Jakarta Education Sub-Department states that the school is obliged to temporarily close and conduct PJJ.

"If students are affected at school, then tracing is carried out on students or teachers and there are positive ones, it must be closed. If students are affected from family, then their classmates have negative results, PTM can still run," she said.

Previously, SMPN 77 Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, conducted a mass swab test due to the finding of positive cases of COVID-19 against students.

Junior High School 77 Student Representative, Ottong Bukhori confirmed that a number of students were exposed to COVID-19. Then, SMPN 137 Cempaka Putih Barat, Central Jakarta, has also postponed PTM for another week.
