JAKARTA - Two cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia have died. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria revealed that one of the cases of Omicron who died was a Jakarta resident who had been vaccinated with two doses or a complete dose.

Riza revealed that one case of Omicron's death was a resident of Pasar Minggu. He died at the Sulianti Saroso Hospital, North Jakarta, after previously being isolated at the Wisma Atlet RSDC.

"There are two Omicron patients. One person is a resident of Pasar Minggu. He has received the Sinovac vaccine twice, died of complications and respiratory failure," said Riza at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, January 24.

Meanwhile, one death in the other Omicron case was a resident of South Tangerang. This case died at Sari Asih Hospital, Ciputat, while undergoing treatment.

"The other one died at Sari Asih Hospital, Ciputat, South Tangerang, comorbid. So, this South Tangerang resident has not been vaccinated," said Riza.

It is known that the cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 that died were one case of local transmission and one case of overseas traveller (PPLN). Both died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Director of Direct Infectious Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that the two Omicron cases that died were comorbid or had congenital diseases.

"When confirmed positive, both cases of Omicron experienced severe symptoms and shortness of breath," said Nadia.

Specifically in Jakarta, as of January 23, 1,313 cases of Omicron have been recorded. Of those infected, as many as 854 people were foreign travelers, while the other 459 were local transmissions.
