JAKARTA - The 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays have passed. However, there is a threat of an increase in COVID-19 cases coupled with the spread of the Omicron variant which has been transmitted through local transmission.

A spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said the government was anticipating an increase in cases by tracing or tracing contacts with close contacts of COVID-19 cases.

"Tracing efforts will be carried out on close contacts of cases. WHO targets a tracing ratio of 1 in 30. However, considering the testing capabilities of different areas, close contact is prioritized first for people who have met face-to-face or in direct physical contact, including treating positive cases", said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, January 4.

Wiku suggested that travelers should quarantine and afterward minimize outdoor mobility activities if it is not urgent.

This is intended to reduce the burden on close contacts who are tested when they are confirmed positive for COVID-19.

"Self-quarantine at home for 14 days if possible can be an alternative to continue to monitor and maintain physical condition and certainly not endanger other people around", said Wiku.

Furthermore, Wiku also asked the local government to monitor and evaluate 3T's efforts to be able to screen positive cases and carry out early treatment, especially in areas that experienced an increase in cases during the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.
