1.3 Meter High Flood In Natuna

NATUNA - Natural disaster of 1.3 meters high flood hit four locations in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri) triggered by high-intensity rain.

The four flood locations are Sual Street, Sihotang Street, Air Lebai Street, and Air Lakon Street, Pauh Alley.

"The flood has occurred since 13.00 western Indonesia time until now (at night)," said the Head of the Emergency, Logistics, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Section, Disaster Management Division of the Natuna Fire Service (Damkar), Elkadar Lismana, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 3.

Elkadar said the flood had submerged dozens of residents' houses, especially those located on the side of the road.

A number of residents of houses that were flooded were forced to flee to the homes of family or neighbors who were not affected by the flood.

"The flow of water from Mount Natuna flows very fast, plus the condition of small culverts, so it cannot accommodate the rainwater discharge," he said.

The joint team from the Natuna Disaster Management Sector assisted by the TNI, Polri, and local communities are still struggling to deal with flooding.

So far there have been no casualties caused by the flood, but residents affected by the flood are predicted to suffer material losses.

"We are helping residents save their property and evacuate them to safer places. In addition, we are also trying to prevent flooding from spreading further," he added.
