Dissatisfied With Blue Origin's Rocket, Jeff Bezos Wants His Space Station To Be Equipped With A Hotel
JAKARTA – The boss of rocket company Blue Origin and founder of e-commerce Amazon, Jeff Bezos plans to build his own space station, called Orbital Reef. In the future, Orbital Reef will become a commercial space station measuring 2,972 square meters, almost the size of the International Space Station (ISS).
Inside the Orbital Reef there will be a space hotel and a special room for astronomical research purposes. Orbital Reef will be designed with an open system architecture so that it can be used by various groups, so it is not only for certain groups.
Orbital Reef is said to be accessible to space agencies, media and travel companies, technology companies, to entrepreneurs and investors. Blue Origin also claims to provide "end-to-end" services for anyone who wants to use the services at the station, from transportation, space rental, hardware technology assistance, to robot services.
To realize this plan, Blue Origin has collaborated with Sierra Space, the Sierra Nevada Corporation and Boeing, Genesis Engineering Solutions, Redwire Space, and Arizona State University.
But until now Blue Origin has not announced the amount of the budget to achieve this big ambition. Jeff Bezos himself is rumored to be providing an injection of funds of US$1 billion (equivalent to Rp. 14.1 trillion) per year to Blue Origin. The Verge reports that the construction process for the Orbital Reef space station will begin in 2025 to 2030.
Jeff Bezos seems dissatisfied with his current rocket company. Therefore he continued to develop big future projects for Blue Origin. Because some time ago he was disappointed at NASA's decision to work with Elon Musk's rocket company, SpaceX, on a moon landing mission.
