Hamilton Aiming Third Consecutive Victory This Season

JAKARTA - Formula 1 racing event will visit the Silverstone Circuit, England this weekend. Lewis Hamilton is looking for his third straight win this season.

The Mercedes racer has twice celebrated victories in the stands in the absence of spectators at the Styria Grand Prix and Hungary as F1 rolled back after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Silverstone itself will host two consecutive races, the British Grand Prix at the weekend and another grand prix marking the 70th anniversary since the first F1 series was held at Silverstone in 1950.

"The British Grand Prix is the best grand prix, especially because of the fans, thousands who come and make it a big spectacle," said the six-time world champion after winning the third series in Hungary, as quoted by Antara.

Hamilton is also the racer who has won the most British Grand Prix with six victories. This achievement was achieved in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Mercedes is unbeaten this season, after Valtteri Bottas won the opening series in Austria and Hamilton in the following two series. The two riders also took turns taking pole positions.

While the Silverstone Circuit track design, which is long and characterized by speed, is considered suitable for Mercedes cars, team boss Toto Wolff did not want to underestimate his opponents.

"We had a great start to the season. We overcame a problem that made it difficult for us in the first week, winning three out of three races and scoring quite a lot," said Wolff.

"But the first three races also emphasized another crucial factor: the importance of reliability in this shortened season," he continued.

Hamilton currently tops the riders' standings by five points from Bottas, and is 30 points adrift of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished on the podium in the last two series.
