Use The Right Approach, Foreign Minister Retno Says Mexico Supports Indonesia's Leadership In G20
JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi said Mexico expressed its support for Indonesia's chairmanship of the G20 for 2022.
Mexico's support was conveyed by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon during a meeting with Retno ahead of the G20 Summit in Rome, Italy, on Friday, October 29 local time.
By taking the big theme 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger' for her chair at the G20, Foreign Minister Retno emphasized that Indonesia will pay great attention to the interests of developing countries.
"Inclusivity will be the key word of Indonesia's chairmanship at the G20," said Retno when delivering a virtual press statement about her activities while in Rome, Antara, Saturday, October 30.
Mexico assessed that the approach taken by Indonesia was appropriate while leading the G20.
Indonesia will chair the group of 20 major world economies for the first time from December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022. The handover of chairmanship from Italy to Indonesia will take place at the G20 Summit in Rome on October 30-31 this year.
During its role as chairman of the G20, Indonesia will focus on health issues and handling the pandemic as well as sustainable development, in addition to paying attention to the MSME sector and the digital economy which is the engine of the economy during the pandemic.
Underlining Indonesia's main spirit towards joint recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic, Foreign Minister Retno emphasized that Indonesia is not only concerned with members of the G20.
But it also pays great attention to developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and island nations in the Pacific and Caribbean.
