French Open 2021: Civil War In Semifinals, Fajar/Rian Men's Doubles Face Kevin/Marcus In Semifinals

JAKARTA - Two Indonesian men's doubles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, will meet in the semifinals of the 2021 French Open badminton tournament.

Launching Antara, Saturday, the Fajar/Rian pair qualified for the last four by defeating Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi in the quarter-finals for 45 minutes in Paris, Friday night local time.

The third seed Fajar/Rian defeated the eighth seeded pair from Japan in two straight games 23-21, 21-18 despite having to go through a tight match.

Fajar/Rian, who trailed 15-19 in the first game, amazingly equalized the score before game points after adding four consecutive points to 19-19.

Fajar/Rian, who played more patiently and placed the ball neatly, managed to overcome difficult obstacles in the first game. Then in the second game, Fajar/Rian won after controlling the tempo of the game over Hoki/Kobayashi.

While the top seeds Kevin/Marcus, got rid of the men's doubles from Malaysia, Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi, who became the seventh seed.

In contrast to Fajar/Rian, the pair nicknamed Minions just faced difficult pressures in the second game.

After playing without any problems in the opening game, the Kevin/Marcus pair actually struggled to develop their game in the second game.

Sin/Yi continued to advance through accurate attacks and excelled over Kevin/Marcus to game point. Kevin/Marcus who trailed 17-20, could equalize to 20-20 and are still trying hard to round out the win to 22-20.

After struggling 26 minutes, the Minions finally won two straight games 21-13, 22-20 and wiped out their meeting record with Sin/Yi to 5-0.
