After Releasing The Peparnas Contingent, Anies: It's Not Just The Amount Of Gold, But The Target Is To Build Brotherhood

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, released the departure of the DKI Jakarta contingent which will compete in the 16th National Paralympic Week (Peparnas).

The DKI Jakarta contingent will leave for Papua and start competing from November 2 to 15, 2021.

To the paralympic athletes, Anies underlined that he is not targeting medal achievements. He wants the athletes to be able to take lessons in building brotherhood in the National National Tournament Competition.

"I advise all that this is not only a matter of achieving the target, the amount of gold, silver, and bronze. But the target there is to build brotherhood, bonds of togetherness, and to be present as an example for the Indonesian nation, as a person who is able to work hard, is able to defeat all kinds of feelings of laziness, and reluctance to move up," said Anies at the PPOP Ragunan Gymnasium, South Jakarta, Friday, October 29.

Anies views that paralympic athletes are personal role models who can work hard within their limitations.

"I want to convey to all how high our appreciation for these athletes is. We hope this will be an inspiration that with limitations, they have to work extra hard compared to those without special needs," said Anies. There are 290 people departing for Peparnas 2021, consisting of 197 athletes, 53 coaches, and 40 officials.

Those who will compete are spread across 10 sports, consisting of Badminton, Chess, Wheelchair Tennis, Judo for the Blind, Boccia, Athletics, Shooting, Archery, Swimming, and Table Tennis.

Then, the target set for the DKI Jakarta contingent is to enter the top 10 of the overall medal list. At the Peparnas event in West Java in 2016, the position of the contingent of DKI Jakarta Province was ranked 11th.
