East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa Asks Tuban Regent To Propose Soegondo To Become A National Hero

JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked Tuban Regent Aditya Halindra Faridzky to immediately propose the name of Soegondo Djojopoespito as a National Hero.

"Soegondo Djojopoespito is a young man from Tuban who chaired the Second Youth Congress Session on October 27-28, 1928," he said in Tuban Regency, as reported by Antara, Thursday, October 28.

In a press release received in Surabaya, Khofifah, who is the number one person in the East Java Provincial Government, hopes that the Linra Regent completes the required documents for submission to the central government.

The governor said that Soegondo's name had actually been proposed by the Yogyakarta Provincial Government because of the existence of his grave in Yogya.

"But in the records that have come to me, there are incomplete documents. So please submit the application file immediately by the Tuban Regency Government and complete it and then forward it to the province to be immediately submitted to the national title council," she said.

Apart from being an active figure in the Indonesian Student Association (PPPI), said Khofifah, Soegondo Djojopoespito is a son of East Java who played an important role or inspired the Youth Pledge event until it was successfully pledged.

"For this struggle, we should propose him to become a national hero," said the former social minister.

On the other hand, for this year Governor Khofifah expressed her support for the government to give the title of National Hero to Syaikhona Kholil.

Syaikhona Kholil, who is a charismatic kiai from Bangkalan, Madura, is one of the leading ulama who is considered to have a major influence on the development of Islamic education in the country.

In addition, the kiai who was a teacher of the ulama in Java and Madura also contributed to the struggle against the Dutch colonialists during the war for the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
