Watchmen Dominate Emmy Nominations

JAKARTA - The award ceremony in the television sector, the new Emmy Awards, announced its nominations on Tuesday, July 28. A number of names are competing for this prestigious trophy. However, there are many surprises present in this nomination announcement.

Watchmen, the HBO series led the Emmy with 26 nominations including Best Series, Female Lead, Male Lead, Supporting Actor and others. This achievement follows Game of Thrones, which received the most nominations at the previous year's celebration.

Watchmen is a television series set in 1921 in Tulsa that follows systemic racism in the United States. The series stars Regina King, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jeremy Irons and Tim Blake Nelson.

Even though it only lasted one season, Watchmen managed to attract the attention of the Emmy judges with the complexity of the story. Besides that, following behind Watchmen, there is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel received 20 nominations, while Ozark and Succession received 18 nominations.

For the main character, Paul Mescal who starred in Normal People from the BBC was nominated for Best Actor. Meanwhile, Jodie Comer from Killing Eve and Olivia Colman from The Crown will compete for Best Actress.

Disney Plus production, The Mandalorian also received a lot of places, as many as 15 nominations for the first time by this newly released series.

Watchmen got the most nominations, but this time Netflix as a production house won 160 total nominations with the television series it produced. Beat HBO which got 107 nominations this time.
