PALEMBANG - The defendant in the alleged corruption case of school aid funds (BOS) for elementary schools in Palembang, South Sumatra, faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

Prosecutor Hery Fadlullah in his indictment said that the defendant, who is a former head of the Palembang 79 State Elementary School, was suspected of having harmed the state in the amount of Rp.457.553,000.

The hundreds of millions of money is known to have come from the School Operational Assistance Fund (BOS) for the second quarter of 2019 and is suspected to have been misappropriated to enrich himself by the defendant.

"Due to the defendant's actions, the state is suspected of having suffered a loss of IDR 457,553,000," he said in the trial led by the panel of judges, Mangapul Manalu, as reported by Antara.

For his actions, the defendant Nurmala Dewi was subject to Article 2 paragraph (1) Juncto Article 18 of the Law (UU) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended in Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999. 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption Juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code as the primary article.
