MEDAN - North Sumatra female chess athlete, Giovanni Chrestella (25) was sentenced to 8 months in prison by a panel of judges at the Medan District Court. He was proven to have abused his girlfriend by kicking his genitals.

Based on the Case Investigation Information System (SIPP) of the Medan District Court seen on Wednesday, October 27, the verdict was handed down on Thursday, October 21. In his decision, the judge stated that the defendant had violated the acts as regulated and was threatened with punishment in Article 351 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

"The defendant Giovanni Chrestella has been sentenced to 8 months in prison," said the judge.

"Stipulating the period of arrest and the period of detention that the defendant has served is fully deducted from the sentence that has been handed down," said the judge.

The verdict given by the judge was lighter than the prosecutor's demand, which was 9 months in prison. The indictment explains that the incident took place in April 2021. At that time, the victim and the defendant were at the defendant's boarding house in Sei Putih Village, West Medan District.

The victim then held the defendant's cellphone. However, the cellphone suddenly fell and made the defendant angry with the victim.

"Then suddenly the defendant kicked the victim's witness in the groin with his right foot so that the victim's witness fell," said the prosecutor in the indictment.

According to the victim, his genitals were repeatedly kicked by the defendant. Even his face and eyes were also targeted by the accused.

"The results of the patient's examination found bleeding wounds on the membranes of the left eye and bruises on the left and right eyelids. There were also several facial abrasions and blackened abdominal areas," continued the prosecutor.

"(Also) bruises and swelling were found in the testicles as well as bruises and swelling in the victim's right pubic bone area," he continued.

The medical record is in accordance with the post-mortem Et Repertum No: 717/27/VER/042021 dated 27 April 2021, which was signed by dr.AryaYudha Rahman, from Siloam Hospital.
