Indicator Survey: Majority Of Young Voters Think Climate Change Is Human-made
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Political Indicator survey institute together with the Indonesia Cerah Foundation released a poll on the perceptions of young voters, namely Gen-Z and millennials, regarding the issue of global climate change.
Executive Director of Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi explained that the majority of voters in the age group of 17 to 35 years view that climate change is mostly caused by human activities.
"Most of the young respondents said that the world's climate is changing as a result of human activities and humans need to deal with it," said Burhanuddin in a virtual survey presentation, Wednesday, October 27.
As a result, the most influential human-made factor in climate change was stated by 62 percent of respondents aged 17 to 26 years and 61 percent of respondents aged 27-36 years.
"This is an important input that I think is crucial. There is humility from our respondents to admit that humans caused it, and therefore need to tackle it collectively," explained Burhanuddin.
Furthermore, the Indicator also conducts a survey on how serious the problem of global climate change is. This survey uses a scale of 1 (not a serious problem at all) to 10 (a very serious problem).
"As a result, the mean value (average) is 6.7. It means that it is closer to number 10 than to number 1. So, this is a serious problem in the eyes of young people," he explained.
For information, this survey was conducted in the range of September 9 to 16, 2021. The sample was selected completely at random using the multistage random sampling method.
Respondents who took part in the survey were 4,020 respondents, with details of 3,216 respondents aged 17-26 years and 804 respondents aged 27-35 years. The confidence level for this survey is 95 percent.
