BKSDA Releases 30 Super Red Arowana Fish To Sentarum Lake, West Kalimantan
KAPUAS HULU - The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of West Kalimantan released 30 broodstock of super red arowana fish in Sentarum Lake, Kapuas Hulu National Park area, West Kalimantan.
"Lake Sentarum is one of the original habitats for arowana fish in Indonesia, although the fish has been widely cultivated, it needs to be maintained and efforts to return to its natural state are encouraged," said Head of the West Kalimantan BKSDA Sadtata Noor Adirahmanta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 26.
The release of arowana fish into their natural habitat has often been done as an effort to preserve nature.
Adirahmanta admits that until now there is no definite data on the population of arowana fish in nature. But the captivity and circulation of arowana fish is available.
"The release of the arowana fish is in collaboration with the Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum National Park Centers and PT Mitra Sarana Aquatama," Adirahmanta said.
In West Kalimantan, Arawana fish breeding has existed since 1980 and until now the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the West Kalimantan BKSDA has fostered 47 breeders, consisting of eight overseas marketing permits and 39 domestic marketing permits.
"Arowana fish breeding has an impact on increasing community economic growth and the ecological impact of increasing arowana fish population is also very influential on its sustainability," said Adirahmanta.
Meanwhile, Head of the Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum National Parks Kapuas Hulu Wahju Rudianto said his party had built a community-based super red arowana fish sanctuary in Lake Merebung in the Danau Sentarum National Park area.
"Our goal is to preserve arowana fish in their natural habitat, with the hope of improving the community's economy by using their children," said Rudianto.
He invites the community to regulate the pattern of using arowana fish so that its sustainability is maintained, so that the endemic animal pride of the people of West Kalimantan is maintained and increases the economic growth of the community.
