Governor Of Bali: President Warns All Of Us Not To Have A Spike In New COVID-19 Cases

DENPASAR - Bali Governor Wayan Koster said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had warned that there would be no spike in new cases of COVID-19 on the Island of the Gods. This is due to the opening of foreign tourist gates and international events.

"I also need to convey that the president has warned all of us regarding the implementation of foreign tourist arrivals, which we will open in the next few months so that there will be no spike in new cases," said Koster when giving a speech at the Bali DPRD plenary meeting in Denpasar, Monday, October 25.

According to him, the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bali must be handled seriously because Bali is trusted to host the G-20 meeting. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Bali ahead of the implementation of a number of international-scale events in Bali.

"This must be properly maintained in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Bali. Because we are not only concerned with our local interests in Bali. But there are also the interests of the state who have been entrusted with the Bali Province as the host of international events. That is, what is of direct interest is international meetings the G-20 conference," said Koster.

"So this is a serious concern from the Central Government and also WHO. WHO continues to monitor every day the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province of Bali down to the district and city levels. The data is held by WHO on its development," he explained.

In addition, Koster said that almost every day he gets a call from the center asking about the development of COVID-19 in Bali.

"So frankly, I almost always get calls from the center regarding the development of COVID-19, and ensuring a conducive situation for international meetings to be held in 2022," said Koster.
