Instagram Launches SuperBeat Feature That Makes Reels Builder Easier And Interesting

JAKARTA— Instagram has launched a new feature dubbed SuperBeat that allows Reels creators to automatically edit videos to the beat of the accompanying song. This release comes amid many features that aim to make this Facebook-owned app even more fun and engaging.

This includes ways to co-author Reel and Feed, dynamic screen lyrics, desktop uploads, fundraising, and more.

Since the advent of Snapchat and TikTok, Facebook has focused much of its efforts on making sure Instagram remains as attractive as possible, especially to teenage users. The app has put a lot of energy into its video features, with Reels, in particular, receiving a lot of attention since its launch last year. Indeed, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has since noted that he no longer considers it a photo-sharing platform.

SuperBeat is a Reels feature that promises to make it more fun and easy to create short videos that react in time to audio tracks. The user opens Reel and adds the song they want to use. Next, they go to the Effects tab, find the SuperBeats tool, and use it on their clips.

Users can also choose one of five SuperBeat effects to automatically apply to their videos. First, there's Bass, which emulates the visuals of booming from a bass speaker. Repeat, which alternates the full-screen and split-screen layouts.

Chroma momentarily makes red, green, and blue chromatic tones off the axes. Refraction is similar to Chroma, except that the pitch shifts back and forth again. Lastly, SuperBeat, which runs all the previous effects iteratively.

While Instagram wants to talk about how many new features are being added to the app, creators may not want to get too attached. The company made a lot of fuss about IGTV when it launched in 2018, only to take it down in recent months. Just because a company adds more doesn't necessarily mean a better experience.

For example, trying to track SuperBeat is not an intuitive experience. As already highlighted, SuperBeat is a feature in Effects," which itself is tucked into Rolls, which is the third option on the "Create bar."

When users find SuperBeat, they then have to decide which of the five presets they want to use on their videos. Relatively speaking, it all equates to a lot of hunting and for something meant to make it easy to make awesome Instagram Reels videos.
