Michael Jordan's First Jersey At The Chicago Bulls Auctioned

JAKARTA - The jersey that Michael Jordan owned on the first day of signing his contract with the Chicago Bulls in 1984 will be auctioned. Bidding will be made online, phone and in live auction in Beverly Hills on December 4.

Julien's Auctions announced that the red and white jersey bearing the name Jordan and number 23 is expected to sell for 200 thousand to 400 thousand US dollars (Rp2.9 billion - Rp5.8 billion).

At the age of 21 at that time, the NBA legend smiled and lifted the jersey during his first press conference as a member of the Bulls team. He went on to become the heart of the Bulls dynasty which won the NBA six times in the 1990s.

Jordan's career this year was documented in the documentary series The Last Dance which attracted a large number of television viewers. A pair of signed Air Jordan shoes he previously sold for $ 560,000 in May.

Hannah Malin, sports business development manager for Juliens Auctions, says Jordan's goods are in the limelight because she has transcended the world of sports.

"Jordan is a pop culture phenomenon," he said. "So whatever he has achieved is very important."

Also up for auction later is a Kobe Bryant jersey and a signed LA Lakers basketball. Bryant died in a helicopter crash last February.
