PALANGKA RAYA - Mayor of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan Province, Fairid Naparin asked residents to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the local area.
"For several areas in Central Kalimantan, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has given early warnings of potential rain accompanied by lightning and thunder," Fairid said in Palangka Raya, Friday, October 22.
He also asked residents to increase their awareness of the potential for extreme weather changes, so they can anticipate accidents or disasters caused by weather conditions.
One of the signs of extreme weather changes is the appearance of cumulonimbus (CB) clouds, accompanied by a dark atmosphere and strong winds.
For this reason, continued Fairid, if you are in an open location, immediately seek shelter, both houses and buildings. Avoid taking cover under trees and avoid near billboards to avoid lightning strikes and falling trees or billboards.
Fairid also invites the public to periodically monitor developments and predictions of weather changes through the BMKG official website or the BMKG Info application which can be downloaded at the Apple Store and Play Store.
"Moreover, we also invite the people of Palangka Raya to also be aware of the emergence or spread of diseases during the rainy season such as coughs, colds, diarrhea and itching," said the youngest regional head in the Central Kalimantan Province. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has issued an early warning, namely being aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain that can be accompanied by lightning/lightning and strong winds in the Lamandau Regency, Sukamara Regency, West Kotawaringin Regency and Murung Raya Regency.
