Manager Explains Why Planes Often Turn Before Landing At Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport

JAKARTA - Husein Sastranegara Airport stated that the phenomenon of airplanes circling before landing is a common thing when there is extreme weather.

Executive General Manager of Husein Iwan Winaya Airport explained that the plane's circling action is indeed the standard that must be done when bad weather occurs around the landing area which causes limited vision.

"Visibility at that time was only 1,000 meters, while for landing the minimum was 1,800 meters", said Iwan in Bandung, West Java, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 22.

The phenomenon of the plane spinning in the sky in the eastern Bandung area occurred on Thursday (21/10) night. Most of the Bandung area at that time was hit by heavy rain.

In addition to heavy rain, at that time in several areas of Bandung, there was a phenomenon of strong winds that caused several trees to fall.

Iwan explained that in the end, the plane carrying 85 passengers with a departure from Medan (KNO) to Bandung (BDO) finally landed safely at Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung City, West Java.

According to Iwan, the existence of extreme weather does not necessarily make the plane need to rotate first. Because the plane according to him can land even in extreme weather if the vision is still good.

So he appealed to the public not to panic when they saw a similar phenomenon. The reason is that it is a pilot's decision that is fully supported by data.

"And there are several plans, for example, yesterday there was no change in the weather, the plane will be diverted to Halim, or Cengkareng until the weather is good again, then it will fly again to Bandung", said Iwan.
