Successfully Undergoing Tests, Russia Will Develop Marker Security Robot Capability

JAKARTA - The Marker robot has completed an experiment to patrol the Vostochny spaceport in Russia's Far East, the press office of Russia's Advanced Research Fund told TASS on Thursday.

The vision module allows the robot to move completely independently along defined patrol routes.

Experiments to integrate the Marker robot into the security system of the Vostochny spaceport began on October 8. The experiment involved a wheeled Marker robot platform equipped with a multipurpose optoelectronic module. The robotic vehicle controls the state of the spaceport's power lines and utilities, monitoring the integrity of the complex's perimeter.

"The robot moves along the specified route in a fully autonomous mode, due to its intelligent machine vision system. The marker automatically passes through the obstacles that appear in its path," the institute explained, as quoted October 21.

The robotic vehicle is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that allows its autonomous operation for up to three days, he added.

Russia will use the Marker advanced robotic platform to develop advanced robots for the protection of vital state facilities, Arkady Petrosov, Project Head at the National Robotics and Technology Development Center of Russia's Advanced Research Fund, said.

"The results achieved during the experiments laid the foundation for creating advanced robotic vehicles capable of providing security for vital state facilities," said Petrosov.

Marker's experimental robotic platform offers Russia's best capabilities for autonomous movement in unknown environments and object identification based on artificial intelligence technology.

The technology has been developed by a team of advanced researchers from the State R&D Institute of Aviation Systems, Southern Federal University and the Scientific Design Bureau of Computing Systems, he explained.

Please note, Marker's experimental robotic platform has been developed as part of a joint project of the Advanced Research Fund and Android Technics Research and Production Association which started in 2018. The project aims to develop and conduct large-scale testing of ground robotics and basic robotic elements.
