Taylor Swift's New Album Cover Looks Like A Black Metal Musician, Inspired Or Plagiarized?
JAKARTA - After Taylor Swift announced the release of her new album, Folklore, last Thursday, Swifties (as Taylor Swift fans) greeted her with great fanfare. But for the black metal music community, the album raises questions. What is the reason?
Many music fans think that the cover art for the pop superstar's new album is similar to the artwork of the black metal community. A work of art closely related to folk tales and dark fairy tales.
Among those who have noticed the metal vibe on Folklore's albums is Ihsahn, the lead singer of the Norwegian black metal band Emperor.
He shared a photo of Swift's album cover alongside Telemark, the solo mini album (EP) cover she released last February.
Ihsahn wrote on Instagram: "So, anyone hasn't seen the new @taylorswift album cover? Personally I like the design."
The musician whose real name is Vegard Sverre Tveitan reposted a message from Telemark designer David Thiérrée, who wrote: "Well, I'm not the only one who thinks Taylor Swift's new visuals are very metal ... In fact, they are very close to the Ihsahn artwork I made. I can do it for him, maybe for less than what he paid. "
Swift's eighth studio album, Folklore, was released by surprise on Friday, July 24. The follow-up to Lover's album which was released last year features 16 songs, including; Illicit Affairs, Mad Woman, The Last Great American Dynasty, and Betty.
This is not the first time that Swift has been said to have been inspired by the loud music genre in terms of album cover design. When the album Reputation was released three years ago, many quickly realized what the album's cover art had in common with the hardcore genre - to be precise, the typeface.
