Minister Of Transportation: Livestock Ship Arrived In Riau, Cattle Supply For Eid Al-Adha Is Safe
JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said that the supply of cattle for Eid al-Adha in Riau Province is certain to be safe. Moreover, as many as 550 cows carried by the KM Camara Nusantara 2 livestock ship arrived at Dumai Port, Riau after traveling from Tenau Port, Kupang.
"I am grateful that the KM Camara Nusantara cattle boat has arrived in Riau to ensure the supply of cattle for this type of cattle ahead of Eid Al-Adha in Riau Province," Budi was quoted as saying in his written statement, Monday, July 27.
He said KM Camara Nusantara 2 made by the Ministry of Transportation had a fixed route, namely Kupang-Tanjung Priok Jakarta.
However, in order to accommodate the Dumai Regional Government's request for a supply of cattle in Riau Province ahead of Eid Al-Adha, the ship made a direct route change from Kupang to Dumai.
"This is the first departure for livestock for the Kupang route, NTT to Dumai, Riau," explained the Minister of Transportation.
Budi further explained that during the voyage, the cattle transported by the ship received proper maintenance so that they were in prime condition and maintained.
In addition, the Ministry of Transportation is also ready to meet food needs in the form of meat in other regions because there are still six other livestock ships.
The six cattle vessels referred to are KM Camara Nusantara 1 which is operated by PT. Pelni; KM Camara Nusantara 2 which is operated by PT. Maritime Wirayuda Shipping; KM Camara Nusantara 3 and KM Cemara 4 which are operated by PT. Subsea Lintas Globalindo; and KM Camara Nusantara 5 which is operated by PT. Line area.
The five ships operate with their base port in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Meanwhile, another ship, namely KM Camara Nusantara 6 which is operated by PT. ASDP operates with its base port in Kwandang, Gorontalo.
Of the total 6 units of livestock ships, five of them are second generation with a more ideal design to ensure animal welfare or the feasibility of animal welfare treatment for animals sent by ship.
From data that until June 2020 as many as 13,163 cows, 24 goats and 24 horses had been transported using these six ships to support the fulfillment of meat needs in all regions of Indonesia, especially the DKI Jakarta Province.
It is known that the operation of the special livestock transportation vessels provided by the Ministry of Transportation is one of the applications of the Sea Highway program.
This program aims to meet the needs of livestock production centers to consumer areas. The operating costs are subsidized by the Government through the budget of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation.
