Google Turns Out To Still Use Snack Names For Android 11

JAKARTA - Since last year, Google has stopped using the name of the snack as the initial for the Android operating system (OS). This step was taken by Google since they released Android 10.

However, it seems that Google's tradition of naming the Android OS after snack names has not disappeared, although replacing them with numbers. As quoted in the VP of Engineering Android interview Dave Burke with Droid Life, it was revealed that Google's internal development team still uses a special code for naming Android 11.

"We changed it to 11, so this is Android 11. However, if you ask my team members 'What are they working on?' They will say 'RVC' and it is' Red Velvet Cake, "said Bruke as quoted by PhoneArena, Monday, July 27.

According to Google's tradition, Android OS development refers to an alphabetical order. Where Android 10 should be referred to as Android Q, what Burke mentions has an internal name of 'Quince Tart'.

Even though it's limited to naming on the internal team, Google still maintains its tradition of naming the Android OS. Hence, the upcoming Android 11 OS can also be referred to as Android R or 'Red Velvet Cake', as its internal name.

In fact, Google has changed the habit of naming Android OS using snack names, since releasing Android 10 in 2019. Google's decision to use a numeric or numeric pattern was made because it was considered more universal.

Because the naming of the Android OS with the name of a snack is quite difficult to pronounce in some countries that don't have this type of food. However, when referring to the alphabetical order, the use of snack names has been carried out by Google since releasing Android 1.5 in 2009 which was named Cupcake.

Since then, each version of Google's green robot operating system has been named sweet snacks, such as Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Kitkat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo and Pie. Now Google's Android 11 OS is planned to be released at the end of 2020.
